Approximately 26-30% of all franchises are solely woman-owned. Additionally, 41% of new franchisees that have launched in the last 24 months are women. The best part: 54% of female franchisees overall say their work/life is balanced or very balanced. (Source: Franchise Business Review).

I help empower women everyday by providing consulting in business ownership via franchising. In the past decade or so, I have seen a significant increase in the number of female business owners. Based on information from the International Franchise Association, there is a rising trend in women entering the world of franchising.
In fact, I recently read that between 2011 and 2017, female franchise ownership jumped by 83 percent. In some markets where women are the breadwinner in the household, I work predominantly with the female partner driving the decision. In general, franchises provide benefits such as proven systems and demonstrated success, with less risk involved and more support from the franchisor.
The growth in the number of female franchisees is likely to be credited to the wide variety of business opportunities that are popping up in franchising, particularly in these three industries:
- Professional/Scientific/Technical Services
- Health Care and Social Assistance
- Other Services (hair and nail salons, fitness, wellness, pet care, etc.)
